Boundary of the Bay Area of Pearl River Estuary

 
In this Study, the Bay Area is defined as comprising all the 17 districts abutting the Pearl River Estuary under the administration of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Dongguan and Zhongshan, and the whole territory of Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions.  The boundary is set out having regard to the ease of statistical analysis and assessment, identification of implementation agencies of the proposed actions as well as the principle of adopting an integrated approach of coastal area management.  The views of the concerned cities have also been taken into account. The Study Area covers a land area of about 6894 km2 and water area of about 8684 km2, with a population of usual residents of about 25.20 million and local GDP of about RMB 3 trillion as at end-2009.
